This is a true story, which has been playing up in my mind for sometime. I wanted to put pen to paper but then again I thought that I might not be able to express my feelings and the emotions that still bubble up in my heart when I think of it.
But let’s start from the beginning…
Approximately 7 weeks ago, a family member’s cat ( a kitten herself) gave birth to three beautiful kittens in our log cabin.
I was amazed and humbled at the dedication, attention, care and mercy this cat gave to her young.
Tirelessly, she fed them, cleaned them up, kept them warm, and put up wit their liveliness once they became more active and mischievous.
In the 5th week after birth and while we were enjoying a very hot spell of weather, the mummy cat started showing signs of distress and illness.
We took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with an infection for which she was given antibiotics and injections.
When we brought her back home, she was really overheating, her temperature was very high and she was trying to cool herself and get some much needed rest.
This is the point when she heard her little kittens crying to be fed.
Somehow while she was laying down, exhausted and unable to cope with her illness, she allowed the kittens to feed.
It was a humbling experience and I was witness of true motherly love and sacrifice.
I could and will not stop being moved to tears every time I think of the incident.
Of course, in the following few days after her illness and while she was recovering, however resistant the kittens were, we weaned them off milk, to give her a chance to recover.
I am pleased to say that they are all now doing very well, alhamdulillah.
Who inspired this creature to show these exemplary behaviour of motherly love?
Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’Ala) of course. SubhanAllah!!!
And we read in the Noble Qur’an:
There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered.
