Profane talk

AVOIDING PROFANE TALK

Believers are not interested in profane and useless talk and affairs. They find no satisfaction in such things and for them they are without value. They become involved in worldly affairs only if some benefit is to accrue to the cause of Allah. That is why believers are described in Qur’an as those “who avoid vain talk.” (Surat al-Mumenoon, 23:3)

The above verse emphasizes that when a believer comes in contact with profane talk or events, he should turn his back and do something else useful for the divine Cause. This is the right behavior to please Allah. In order to do this, the believers should always be cautious, and know what they are doing.

It would not be appropriate for a believer to argue with ignorant and shallow people except where some gain is to be achieved for the Cause.

The Qur’an explains the ideal manner:

“When they hear vain talk, they turn away therefromand say: ‘To us our deed and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant.’ ” (Surat al-Qasas, 28:55)

“They who do not bear witness to what is false, and when they pass by what is vain, they pass by nobly.” (Surat al-Furqan, 25:72)

When a believer becomes free from his current work, he should continue with another useful task. As the verse explains: “Therefore, when you are free (from your immediate task), still labour hard, And to your Lord turn (all) your attention.” (Surat al-Inshirah, 94:7-8)

One Response to Profane talk

  1. Khalid says:

Wow. I got blessed again. :). I was searching sites that condemn profanity and alhamdulilah found you again. Still stayin true. :). I really try to stay Muslim and abhor evil. It really disturbs me to see vain bad words on and off facecrook. This labeled friend of mine can remove his own but won’t. Hide and go cheat and show and tell are games people still like to play. I rarely use these social sites cause of all the (egos) materialism on them. It sickens me. My labeled friend fakes his (ughs) dislikes, though. his likes are lies. They refer to his (opinion) ego rather than to (virtues) my good deeds/soul. He won’t admit it though. He said he’s honest but he lies and connives when he talks. His business seems to be why he keeps people’s attention. They think he’s Muslim too. A month ago on that site I said: Shun (criticize your ego) materialism. I said a little more to correct his vain/wrong thinking on friendship/health. his response was: Dude, what the hell are you talking about? I always try to control my temper. It’s not easy. He disregards truth (virtues) and has a superficial mind. He “secretly” connects with enemies the most on and off that site. Never connects with me and we hardly ever talk. His vain acts and motives prove his words are dishonest. He won’t say that, though. His business is no excuse for vain talk, curse words, and bad company though, right? This materialist society is (so cursed) destroying us. I could tell him bad company is worse than sin alone but already said similar to that. He’s foolish (not serious) when he talks. he probably celebrated April fool’s too but wouldn’t admit it. Deceit worse than not listening, knowing, or reasoning. I try to be direct, concise, and focused on Islam. I try to remember that only Allah has the Power to (Correct) Guide us. But please tell me if you think I should keep tryna deal with this person. Masalaam.
